Our history

engcon’s leading global market position is based on a story that stretches back to the mid-1980s when the tiltrotator was a new invention, and Stig Engström was convinced that this would change the excavator industry. Since engcon was founded in 1990, the business has been centred around product development and end user focus – aspects that, among other things, resulted in several awards and continues to be important pillars for the company’s future development.

1985

Noreco, where Stig Engström was employed as an engineer, meets inventor Ulf Holmdal, who presents a twisting and tilting product for excavators. Stig sees the potential in the tiltrotator to change the world of digging.

1990
1990

Stig Engström decides to further develop the tiltrotator and engcon AB is founded in his home village Lidsjöberg.

1992
1992

engcon moves to Strömsund.

1993

At the EMEX trade fair in Stockholm, engcon presents its tiltrotator for the first time.

1997

engcon enters into agreements with its first retailers in Norway and Denmark. The first EC15 model of the tiltrotator is delivered.

1999
1999

The tiltrotator’s popularity in the Nordic region increases and international expansion is initiated by participating in the Bauma trade fair in Germany. engcon is named “Gazelle of the Year” (“Gazelle Company”) by Dagens Industri.

2002
2002

Stig Engström wins Ernst & Young’s prize “Entrepreneur of The Year”. The Company continues to grow and becomes a Gazelle Company for the third year in a row.

2003
2003

Production is expanded to Niepruszewo in Poland. engcon AB is being restructured into a group with the parent company engcon Holding AB and the three subsidiaries engcon Nordic AB, engcon UK Ltd and engcon Plande Spzoom. Sales offices are established in Finland and Denmark.

2004

engcon is quality certified according to ISO 9000.

2005
2005

Approximately 3,000 tiltrotators and 1,000 other products leave Strömsund for sale.

2007
2007

The new tiltrotator EC02 for mini excavators is launched. engcon becomes the complete supplier of standard equipment for excavators. Stig Engström wins Dagens Industri’s prize “Entrepreneur of the Year 2007”.

2009

engcon has grown to about 100 employees and has sales of just over SEK 500 million. The financial crisis affects engcon, which responds to the crisis by focusing on reducing the costs as well as research and development. engcon becomes the first company to win Dagens Industri’s prize “Super Gazelle” (Gazelle Company for 10 years in a row).

2010

Stig Engström wins Guldgalan’s prize “Entrepreneur of the Decade”.

2011
2011

The first model of the second generation tiltrotator EC226 is launched. Improved design with, for example, cast oil channels increases efficiency and durability.

2012
2012

engcon expands production capacity and improves logistics by opening a new production facility in Niepruszewo, Poland.

2013
2013

Q-Safe, a safety system for quick couplers is launched and an increased focus on safety is integrated into the product portfolio (Non Accident Generation).

2016
2016

engcon expands its product range and becomes the only global supplier of a complete complete solution of tiltrotators, control systems and tools. The international expansion is accelerating which begins with entry into France in 2016, gradually followed by the US, Japan, South Korea, Europe and Canada the coming years.

2017
2017

In collaboration with machine and control system developers, engcon is launching a function that allows the tiltrotator to tilt and rotate automatically.

2018
2018

Engcon enters into new partnerships and development collaborations with several excavator manufacturers.

2019
2019

engcon’s automatic quick coupling system EC-Oil becomes standard on engcon’s quick couplers, tiltrotators and hydraulic tools for excavators in the weight class 6-33 tonnes.

engcon wins the “Best Managed Company” prize from Deloitte and Nasdaq (2019 was the first time the prize was awarded in Sweden and the Company has subsequently won the same award in 2020 and 2021). engcon is also named Mästarnas Mästare gazelle – the Swedish company that has received the most DI Gazelle awards.

2020

engcon celebrates 30 years and is a world leader in tiltrotators. Net sales amount to approximately SEK 1.1 billion with just over 300 employees and local sales offices in 12 countries.

2021

Stig Engström is awarded with a medal by H.M. The King for work within Swedish industry. Co-operation agreements are initiated with John Deere in North America. Furthermore, engcon establishes offices in Canada and South Korea.

2022
2022

On 17 June, engcon made its entrance on Nasdaq Stockholm where the class B share is now trading. A major milestone for both the company, its founders and principal owners. The third generation tiltrotator is launched and presented at various trade fairs during the year. Manufacturing will commence in 2023.
